The role of truss inclined tube

Aug 01,2025

The diagonal tubes in aluminum alloy trusses are an important part of the truss structure, and their functions mainly focus on structural stability, force balance, and functional adaptation, as follows:

1. Enhancing overall structural stability

· Resisting lateral forces: The diagonal tubes connect the upper and lower chords or vertical poles of the truss at an inclined angle, forming a stable triangular structure (a triangle is the most stable shape in geometry). This design can effectively resist lateral forces (such as wind force, vibration, external impact, etc.) and prevent the truss from shifting or deforming in the horizontal direction.

· Suppressing structural shaking: When the truss bears vertical loads (such as suspended lamps, audio equipment, backdrops, etc.), the diagonal tubes can disperse the additional lateral forces generated by the loads, avoiding the truss from shaking or "losing stability" due to uneven force, which is especially applicable to dynamic use scenarios such as large-scale event setups and stage frames.

2. Distributing and transferring loads

· Optimizing the force transmission path: The diagonal tubes can transfer the concentrated loads (such as heavy object suspension points) or distributed loads (such as self-weight, weight of covering materials, etc.) on the truss to the chords and vertical poles, and then conduct them to the ground or foundation through the vertical poles, preventing local components from being damaged due to excessive force.

· Balancing internal force distribution: When the truss is bent or compressed, the diagonal tubes can balance the bending moment and shear force of the chords through their own axial forces (tensile or compressive forces), reducing the load on a single component and improving the overall load-bearing capacity of the truss.

3. Reducing structural weight and improving material utilization

Aluminum alloy materials themselves have the characteristic of being lightweight. The reasonable arrangement of diagonal tubes can reduce the number of unnecessary components or the size of cross-sections while ensuring structural strength. Compared with purely linear structures, the addition of diagonal tubes can achieve higher overall stiffness with less material, meeting the needs of lightweight design.

4. Adapting to complex shapes and functional requirements

· Flexible construction of special-shaped structures: In non-linear truss structures such as arc-shaped, trapezoidal, and polygonal ones, the angle of diagonal tubes can be adjusted according to the shape requirements, making the overall frame meet the appearance design while maintaining structural stability (such as the arc-shaped backdrop frame of a concert stage, the special-shaped top frame of an exhibition booth).

· Assisting connection and support: The diagonal tubes can serve as "reinforcements" for node connections, enhancing the connection strength between chords and vertical poles, and at the same time providing fixed fulcrums for auxiliary equipment (such as cables, lighting brackets), improving the versatility of the truss.

In conclusion, the diagonal tubes of aluminum alloy trusses are the core elements of "structural stability" and "lightweight design". Through mechanical optimization and the principle of geometric stability, they ensure that the truss can play a role safely and reliably under various loads and environments.
